Among the countless letter carriers who volunteer their time to help their communities are (from left): Aurora, Illinois letter carrier Jeff Krahn shown with blood donor and USPS Great Lakes Region Vice President Danny Jackson during Aurora Branch 219's semi-annual blood drive; Woburn, MA carrier Tom Duggan, who collects food during the holiday season for needy postal patrons; and Cleveland carrier Rich Bilski, who distributes donated coats.

Letter carriers:
  Creating a caring community

Letter carriers' service to America extends above and beyond their daily labors. Every day, from coast to coast, countless members of the NALC step forward to enrich and strengthen our communities.

Active or retired, working individually or under the auspices of local NALC branches, these volunteers feed the hungry, comfort children facing grave illness, bring smiles to the face of lonely seniors, lift up those who are being left behind.

Whether it is a branch adopting a school or sponsoring blood drives, or one individual giving a much-needed coat to a child on her route, letter carriers build hope and help keep dreams alive.

The opportunities for service are countless: Community agencies like the United Way and Red Cross, local labor federations, religious and service organizations, they all seek helping hands year-round.

No matter where you live, letter carriers can—and do—serve above and beyond. You can proudly walk with them in service to America.

A helping hand is always needed!

With their unique role as regular visitors to every street in every city and town, letter carriers are often first to identify needs in the community. NALC branches or individual letter carriers never need to look far to see where they can volunteer their services to help the communities where they live and work.

By checking out other sections in the Community Service section of this web site, you can see what letter carriers are doing across the country. We urge you to volunteer your time and effort in a local community service cause!
