American Rescue Plan Child Tax Credit payments begin this week

The first payments of the newly expanded Child Tax Credit will be distributed to millions of American families beginning on July 15. This program, part of the American Rescue Plan that passed in March, is the largest effort in more than 50 years to combat childhood poverty.

This credit provides families $3,600 per year for every child under six, and $3,000 per year for every child ages 6-17. Letter carriers who have children and filed taxes in 2019 or 2020 and have a combined income of up to $150,000 or a single parent income up to $112,500 will automatically receive the credit. The credits will be paid in monthly installments of $300 for each child under 6 and $250 for each child between 6-17 beginning this week.

Any letter carriers who have not filed their taxes in 2019 or 2020, can visit irs.gov/childtaxcredit to check their eligibility and submit information.

“NALC recognizes the important impact that the Child Tax Credit will have on American families across the country,” said NALC President Fredric Rolando. “Many letter carrier families will benefit from these monthly payments that will help with the costs of raising a family.”
