DMV rally for John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

Anthony Puccio

If you are in the DMV area, you are invited to attend the Fighting for our Vote Rally this Saturday, August 21 from 1-4 p.m. in Lincoln Park in Washington, DC.

The rally is bringing people together to show support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4), a bill that would combat voter discrimination by restoring the protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that have been cut back after a pair of Supreme Court decisions. The legislation would ensure a federal review of any changes to voting laws that could discriminate against voters based on race or background. The House is expected to vote on the bill next week.

AFL-CIO Acting President and Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler will be speaking at the event. NALC members in the DMV area are encouraged to attend alongside other union members to stand up and show their support for voting rights.
