Myra Warren was already serving as national Assistant Secretary-Treasurer when she was appointed Director of Life Insurance by President William Young in January of 2005 to fill a vacancy. At the 2006 Las Vegas Convention, she was elected by acclamation to lead the union’s Mutual Benefit Association.
A member of Dallas, Texas Branch 132, Warren served as a Regional Administrative Assistant for Region 10, covering Texas and New Mexico, from 1996 until her appointment by President Vincent R. Sombrotto in March 2002 to the vacant Assistant Secretary-Treasurer’s position. Her election by acclamation at the 2002 Philadelphia Convention to a full term as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer served to validate her already notable credentials and was the culmination of a steady progression through the union ranks.
Warren brings both a zealous commitment to serving the membership and a determined sensibility to her duties. She also has a great interest in the legal system, and holds a degree in paralegal studies. She started carrying mail—and joined the NALC—in August 1981. As a member of Branch 132, she was a shop steward, a Step 2 Designee, an EEO representative, an AFL-CIO delegate and an elected financial secretary. For six years, she was a local business agent, specializing in OWCP, and she also handled FMLA cases before she was appointed RAA.
Additionally, she served in several elected positions on Branch 132’s building committee, ultimately serving as its president. That experience dovetails with one aspect of her current duties, overseeing operations of NALC’s Headquarters building.
"I was blessed with a zeal for sharing knowledge and helping people," Warren said. "It is immensely satisfying to provide my fellow carriers with the tools necessary to stand up to management and obtain the rights to which they are entitled. My goal is to continue my steadfast responsibility in serving the membership."
She is married to Tyler, Texas letter carrier David A. Warren. They have three children—two sons and a daughter—and two grandsons.
