Accommodations for disabled attendees

Attendees at the NALC 68th biennial convention in Minneapolis who may require assistance due to a disability can avail themselves of the following accommodations in adherence with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Hearing impaired

General session video presentations, including podium and floor action, will be open-captioned so that hearing-impaired delegates can sit with their delegations.

If a delegate needs other special accommodations for the disabled, including a need for a signing interpreter in workshops, call the Secretary-Treasurer’s office at NALC Headquarters at 202-393-4695 by May 24.

Accessible equipment rental/medical supplies

Scootaround provides a complete mobility rental service. To book your rental equipment over the telephone, call toll-free, seven days a week: 888-441-7575. Hours Monday through Friday (Central Time) are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit www.scootaround.com. (Delivery to the hotel or convention center is available).

The Mobility Shop provides electrical mobility scooters and wheelchairs. On-site reservations can be made at the Minneapolis Convention Center's visitor information center, every day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For advance reservations or for more information, call 888-404-5554 or visit www.themobilityshop.com.

Parking

Handicapped parking is available to individuals with valid disability parking permits in surrounding ramps and lots as well as at parking meters on the street.

Wheelchair lift vehicles

The NALC is providing free shuttle bus service to and from the Minneapolis Convention Center for hotels within the block that are not within walking distance. A complete list will be available at a later date. To comply with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a vehicle equipped with a wheelchair lift will be made available during all convention hours on an on-call basis. Requests for use of this service can be made directly by calling the convention center's operations manager on-site. The number will be listed on bus fliers available at all hotels where shuttle service is provided.
