Medicare celebrates 50th anniversary

Medicare celebrates 50th anniversary

On July 30, 1965, a landmark amendment to the Social Security Act was enacted, establishing the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

Before these programs were established, around half of all seniors were uninsured, and many disabled people could not afford medical care.

Today, more than 100 million people are covered by these two great programs, which enable access to health care, provide financial security and give people peace of mind.

Happy 50th, Medicare and Medicaid!
