FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON – The National Association of Letter Carriers is pleased to join the American Philatelic Society as the APS unveils a commemorative postage sheet for the 25th Anniversary of the “Stamp Out Hunger®” Food Drive. The personalized postage souvenir sheet, printed by Photo Stamps, will be available starting Saturday, March 4 at AmeriStamp Expo – one of the country’s largest annual stamp and postal history shows.

The show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.

The souvenir sheet features some of the iconic “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign artwork, designed by artists Bil and Jeff Keane of the Family Circus comic strip.  Jeff Keane will join representatives from the NALC to dedicate this personalized postage at a special ceremony at 11 a.m. on March 4.

The food drive is held the second Saturday each May and is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. This year’s will be on Saturday, May 13. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes.

“The fact that this year marks the 25th anniversary makes this one a bit more special,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said.

National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive partners this year are the U.S. Postal Service, National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), United Way Worldwide, AFL-CIO, AARP Foundation, Valpak and Valassis.

Last year’s drive collected a record 80.1 million pounds of food, to replenish food pantries, food banks and shelters from coast to coast – bringing the overall amount of food collected to 1.5 billion pounds.

AmeriStamp Expo will take place March 3 through March 5 in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center at 4590 South Virginia St. in Reno, Nevada.
