WASHINGTON - Letter Carriers’ union President Fredric V. Rolando denounced as patently partisan an attack on the United States Postal Service and the union issued a point-by-point rebuttal of a so-called issue brief from the House Republican Conference.
“This smear cannot go unanswered,” said Rolando, president of the 300,000-member National Association of Letter Carriers. “This attack on America’s most-trusted agency and its 700,000 employees is deliberately misleading and unjustifiably undermines public support for the Postal Service.” He also called the briefing paper issued on August 12 “wildly inaccurate and grossly misleading.”
Rolando said that in releasing its “One Page” brief, the GOP group was resorting to dishonest tactics to discredit the USPS in an attempt to score political points in the debate over health insurance reform.
The NALC’s detailed response is posted here in the union’s website.
