Bipartisan USPS reform legislation will strengthen agency (The Hill)

NALC President Fredric Rolando had a commentary piece in the Aug. 1 edition of The Hill about H.R. 5741, a bipartisan postal reform bill recently introduced in the House of Representatives.

Addressing the elephant in the USPS (The Union Democrat)

President Rolando had a commentary piece in the July 19 edition of Sonora, CA’s The Union Democrat. The commentary explained the national value of USPS and letter carriers, their local economic and civic importance and the improving postal finances. The piece dismantled a commentary the paper ran on July 7 that painted a dire financial picture of USPS, blamed the internet and unions, and advocated privatization:

Commentary: Americans trust the Postal Service (Economics21)

On July 20, the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research’s Economics21 published a commentary piece by President Rolando that explained the situation at the Postal Service: operating profits, the overall value to the country of USPS and letter carriers, the impact of pre-funding. Rolando’s commentary responded to a July 5 piece. The NYC-based Manhattan Institute is one of the country’s leading conservative think tanks.
