NALC Call to Action: Tell Your House Rep to Cosponsor H.R. 2382

As letter carriers know, repealing the mandate to pre-fund retiree health remains at the top of NALC’s legislative agenda. Pre-funding repeal is the key to achieving postal reform, investing in the Postal Service’s infrastructure, and better utilizing its vast network to further serve business and residential customers.

To that goal, letter carriers are joining together to contact their House Representatives and ask that they cosponsor H.R. 2382 – the ‘USPS Fairness Act,’ which would repeal the burdensome mandate to pre-fund retiree health benefits.

H.R. 2382 gives Congress an opportunity to repeal this mandate and thereby dramatically improve the financial situation at the Postal Service. With 180 bipartisan cosponsors, many lawmakers already support eliminating the mandate, which speaks to all the hard work done by letter carriers.

While that number continues to grow every day, we cannot stop there. We need a bipartisan majority of the House (218) to demonstrate that this issue is important and has the support needed to pass on the House floor so that we can take an important step in ending this ill-conceived mandate. To that end, we need to be sure that we are educating lawmakers on the importance of eliminating this mandate (click here for a link to NALC’s pre-funding fact sheet).

You can check the latest cosponsors by alphabetical order by clicking here. If your member is already a cosponsor, call anyway and thank him/her for the support!

Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and be prepared to provide your ZIP code to connect to your Representative. Ask him/her to support the U.S. Postal Service and its employees by cosponsoring H.R. 2382, the USPS Fairness Act.
