Milwaukee, WI Branch 2 President Emeritus Allen “Al” Jelinek dies

NALC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Milwaukee, WI Branch 2 President Emeritus Allen “Al” Jelinek on Feb. 5, 2025. He was 79.

Brother Jelinek was born and raised in Milwaukee, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. After completing his service, he began working as a letter carrier. Those who knew him recall how he performed his role “with exceptional commitment and devotion” and note his “unwavering dedication to justice and labor rights,” as demonstrated by his leadership in Milwaukee during the Great Postal Strike of 1970.

As a proud member of the NALC, Jelinek played an integral role in both Pioneer Branch 2 and the Wisconsin State Association of Letter Carriers. In addition to serving as shop steward, he left a lasting impression on those he represented as an arbitration advocate. From 1994 to 2003, he served as president of Branch 2 and, even in retirement, he remained committed to serving the union and mentoring the next generation of advocates. His selfless involvement in community service efforts, such as the NALC’s partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, will not be forgotten.

Jelinek is survived by his wife, Gina; daughters Anna, Ammy and Harmony; sons Nick and Jonathan; grandchildren Victor, Ryan, Ashley, Hope, Faith, Robert and Caden; and many loving extended family members.

“NALC is deeply saddened by the loss of Brother Jelinek,” NALC President Brian L. Renfroe said. “On behalf of the NALC, I commend his many years of devoted service as a leader and mentor and send our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues.”
