Recent letter carrier deaths

Greater East Bay Branch 1111 member and shop steward Nathaniel Velasco passed away on Nov. 20 while on duty after suffering a heart attack. Brother Velasco was a letter carrier in Freemont, CA for three years. He was 39 years old.

Rochelle Duffee died on Nov. 28 after a truck hit her while she was walking home from work. Sister Duffee was a member of Hammond, IN Branch 580 and a letter carrier for 43 years. She was 68 years old.

Tampa, FL Branch 599 member Paul J. Falica died on Dec. 18 following an accident while on duty. Brother Falica served as a letter carrier for 42 years. He was 69 years old.

Daniel Wills, a member of St. Louis, MO Branch 343, passed away on Dec. 13 following a car accident while off-duty. He was 29 years old and was a letter carrier for seven years. Brother Wills is survived by his wife and four small children.

Marvin Young Jr. passed away on Dec. 15. He had been on life support since Sept. 15 due to a serious on-duty accident in which his vehicle was hit by an SUV. Brother Young was a member of Richmond, VA Branch 496 and served as a letter carrier for 5 years. He was 30 years old and is survived by his sons Dakari, age 2, and Kairo, 9 months old.

“NALC is deeply saddened by the losses of these members,” NALC President Brian L. Renfroe said. “On behalf of NALC, I commend their service and send our deepest sympathies to their families, friends and colleagues.”
