Former Branch 8 Treasurer Bill Himmelberg dies

William “Bill” Himmelberg died on July 11. Brother Himmelberg was a member of Lincoln, NE Branch 8 and was a letter carrier for 32 years before retiring in 2017. Himmelberg served as the treasurer of Branch 8 and the Nebraska State Association of Letter Carriers for more than 20 years. Himmelberg is survived by his wife Linda, his sons Brett, Matt and Jared and five grandchildren. He was 61.

Branch 30 officer Frank Ferro dies

Frank Ferro suffered a heart attack on July 19 while delivering the mail and later died from complications on July 24. Brother Ferro was a member of Kansas City, MO Branch 30 and he carried the mail for 30 years. At Branch 30, Ferro served as a branch officer since 2008, a union steward, and he was a graduate of the NALC Leadership Academy Class 1. Ferro is survived by his wife Cathleen, and his four children Dianna, Frank II, Joanna and Benjamin. He was 53.

 


Former Branch 2148 President Ed Mansfield dies

Edward Mansfield died on July 22. Brother Mansfield was a member of Sarasota, FL Branch 2148 and carried the mail for 38 years before he retired in 2007. Throughout his career, Mansfield served the union in several capacities. He was the former president of Branch 2148 and a former Step B representative. He also previously served Region 9 as an arbitration advocate and a local business agent. He was 69. 

On-duty death

Brad Pennington died on July 21 after a car involved in a high-speed chase crashed into his postal vehicle. Brother Pennington was a member of Jackson, MS Branch 217 and was a letter since 2013. He is survived by his wife Jordan and his 3-year-old son Westin. He was 32.

Off-duty deaths

Peter Monteleone died on July 19. He left work not feeling well and later suffered a heart attack. Brother Monteleone was a letter carrier for 25 years and a member of Westchester, NY Branch 693, where he previously served as a shop steward. Monteleone was a Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife and two children. He was 58.

Duncan Pea died in his home on July 20. Brother Pea was a member of Detroit, MI Branch 1 and had been a letter carrier for nine years. He was 63.
